Digital Price Tag for Mercedes-Benz dealerships worldwide

Mercedes-Benz is replacing the printed price label in the showroom with a touch-enabled tablet at the vehicle that pulls prices, equipment and media from the Mercedes systems, the content management system and the dealer management systems. We built the app for iPad and Android and support the rollout across more than 900 dealerships in 32 countries.

Starting point

A paper price label no longer suits the showroom.

Until now, a printed price label stood next to every vehicle in the Mercedes-Benz showroom. As soon as a price, a piece of equipment, a package or a model detail changed, the label had to be recreated, printed, brought to the dealership and swapped at the vehicle. Across a dealer network of that size, keeping those labels current became a permanent effort in every country and every dealership.

At the same time, the information customers expect at the vehicle has grown with the product: not just price and engine, but equipment packages, financing options, technical data, images and media. A static label could neither show all of that nor keep it up to date.

The task was to replace the paper price label with a tablet at the vehicle that pulls its data directly from the Mercedes systems, the content management system and the dealer management system, that customers can operate in the showroom without explanation, and that puts salesperson and customer in front of the same picture during a conversation.

Approach

From a tablet in the showroom to 32 countries.

The Digital Price Tag was set up as a product, not delivered as an app and handed over. Native for iPad and Android, connected to the relevant Mercedes data sources, rolled out together with each country and supported in daily operation.

  1. 01

A native app for iPad and Android

The Digital Price Tag runs natively on iPads and Android tablets, so each country can use the hardware it already has instead of being tied to one platform. In the showroom the app behaves the same in both worlds: a touch-enabled label at the vehicle that responds to a tap.

  2. 02

    Connecting the Mercedes data world

Price, configuration, equipment, technical data and media come from several sources: central Mercedes interfaces provide the product and country-specific data, content systems the editorial material and media, and the dealer management system the view of the stock in that particular dealership. The data flow looks different in every country. The Digital Price Tag talks to these sources cleanly, without duplicating or replacing them.

  3. 03

    Onboarding countries and dealers

Every new country brings local prices, taxes, languages, model ranges, financing rules and its own system landscape on the dealer side. We support each country through the introduction: what has to come from the central systems, how content is maintained properly, how the dealer management system connects, and what the dealerships see in the end. Out of that grew a repeatable onboarding, not a special case per country.

  4. 04

    Ongoing operation and global support

We have been working with Mercedes-Benz for 14 years. The Digital Price Tag is now a fixed part of that: it runs in more than 900 Mercedes-Benz dealerships in 32 countries. We are responsible for releases, monitoring and support for the countries and the dealerships while the rollout continues. What we see in daily operation flows back into the product.

Impact

Price, equipment and media always show what applies today.

When a price, a piece of equipment or a media item changes in the system, the new information is visible on the tablet. Nobody has to print a label, carry it to the dealership or swap it at the vehicle. What used to take attention day after day in the country back offices and the dealerships now simply runs.

In the showroom the tablet is closer to what customers are used to anyway. They tap their own way through equipment and configuration, compare engines, see the current financing options and hand the conversation over only when the question becomes specific. The salesperson does not start with the basics but joins where their advice carries weight.

More than 900 dealerships in 32 countries now work on the same product, with data and languages that fit locally. With every further country the same onboarding pattern grows. That decouples the pace of the rollout from the effort per country.

Let us rethink your point of sale experience.

What works for the Digital Price Tag at Mercedes-Benz transfers to any point of sale where product information has to be current, adapted locally and consistent across many locations. We build the application, connect the relevant data sources cleanly and support the rollout into further countries, instead of leaving a pilot behind. In a first conversation we can see where the greatest friction sits for you and what a first step would look like.
